Troubadour - Solo

A mind-blowing solo to the sound of a flying saxophone surounded by a fascinating drone.

In the Oc language, Trobador designates the "finder", at the same time creator, composer and performer of poetry and music. Sylvain Rifflet is a worthy descendant of these twelfth-century troubadours, whose last quartet portrays him: from project to project, he finds new ways to combine and make the word jazz resonate. By taking an interest in monodic medieval music, accompanied at the time by a drone, he adopted a shruti-box, an Indian instrument. For Banlieues Bleues, alone on stage, he confronts the marvelous hushed and airy sound of his saxophone with this fascinating drone, around the first musical poems of love and some jazz standards.

Dans la langue d’oc, Trobador désigne le “trouveur”, à la fois créateur, compositeur et interprète de poésie et de musique. Sylvain Rifflet est un digne descendant de ces troubadours du XIIe siècle dont son dernier quartette fait le portrait : de projet en projet, il trouve de nouvelles manières de conjuguer et faire résonner le mot jazz. En s’intéressant à la musique médiévale monodique, accompagnée à l’époque par un bourdon, il a adopté une shruti-box, instrument indien à anches libres et à soufflet. Pour Banlieues Bleues, seul sur scène, il confronte le merveilleux son feutré et aérien de son saxophone à ce fascinant drone, autour des premiers poèmes musicaux de l’amour et de quelques standards de jazz.
